14 May 2018, the day of this year’s Panchayat elections in West Bengal, was marked by fear, intimidation, guns, bombs, brutal injuries and at least 18 deaths across the state. Bhangor (South 24 Parganas, 30 km from Kolkata), in particular, reeled under intense terror and violence, allegedly from ruling party armed militia, backed by local police, as candidates put up by the Committee for Protection of Land Livelihood Environment and Ecology challenged ruling party candidates across 8 seats in the PowerGrid-affected area.

Here is a GroundXero video bulletin of events during the polling day at Bhangor.
